Weihnachtsfrieden
Silence hangs around with a fine thread, at risk of breaking with the slightest breeze. The only sounds, the breathing of your companions, a sparrow calling in the forest.
A touch of cold on your face, the first snow of the day. You wonder if you will get to live another day, to see another dawn, to see more flowers digging their way through the thick white mantle.
You hear a voice, way in the distance beyond another trench. The sound of a carol in the air, a language you do not understand, but you welcome it as if it was the ray of a warm sun. One of your brothers starts to sing.
One day of humanity, one day to remember that we are meant to hug each other, to comfort our brothers, to share the warmth of a fireplace.
